Life

So I am thinking about going vegetarian again. I say again because I did it once when I was in high school. So I Google "going vegetarian" and the first thing that pops up is Peta's "starter kit" for vegan/vegetarians and it almost made me want to eat just meat forever out of pure spite. They make you take this quiz about animals with basically the objective of shaming you into being vegan by showing all the different human like qualities the animals we eat have. Trust me, I read The Jungle, and Skinny Bitch, I know how inhumane the butchering process is, and having had pets before, I realize that animals have some form of emotions. But I am not about to make myself a hypocrite by saying I wanna go vegetarian for the sake of the animals. My reasons for doing so have mostly to do with the fact that I am fat and poor and would like to change both of those things. Going with eating just dairy, vegetables and grains would be an excellent way to clean up my diet and spend less money at the grocery store. I should be buying all of my food at the grocery store anyways, but have not done so for several reasons having to do with my living situation, but I am in hopes that this will improve over the coming months. I hate making commitments to things like this because I always seem to break them, so for now I guess I will try it out and ease myself into things, and see how it goes.

Sea Otters Hold Hands When They Sleep, So They Don't Drift Away From Each Other

The Sexuality Misconception

I was reading an article the other day on www.thefrisky.com about bisexuality and the double standards held for men and women: it's not socially acceptable for a man to claim he is bisexual because he is seen as just a slut, while it's perfectly okay for a woman to claim she is bisexual (because women are more in touch with their sexuality and oh yeah, physically attractive). The saying goes; "you're either gay, straight or lying."  In western cultural terms, the norm had always been heterosexuality, but painfully and slowly western culture has begun to accept the fact that some people just happen to be attracted to the same gender that they are and have been that way since they were born. Bisexuality, however, is seen as just an excuse for people to fuck whomever they like. Those who claim to be bisexual are not taken seriously, and are even considered greedy;  you can't have both, it's either one or the other, they say.

This idea has always bothered me, and I think the term "bisexuality" might even be a little bit narrow as a descriptor for human sexuality. The honest truth is that there are very few people in this world who are totally gay or totally straight. Human sexuality is a continuum, not a set of check boxes. Personally, I would consider myself "mostly straight"; I seem to connect emotionally the best with men, have only had relationships with men, but I have also had intimate experiences with women and consider the female form to be more attractive than the male form. As an artist I have always had an appreciation for the varied lines and contours of the female form, and I find a certain beauty in it that I just don't see in the male form. This is not to say that I find men unattractive; believe me, I loves me some Denzel, Brad, and the like, and I can't see myself marrying a woman, even if it ever were legal.

The point I am trying to make is that categorizing human beings into the column of Gay, Straight, or Bisexual just simply doesn't work; there are too many variables and gray areas that need to be taken into account. Bisexual people; women and men, are not selfish, or promiscuous, they simply realize something that the rest of the world isn't willing to accept; that we are all a little bit gay, and a little bit straight too. Once we accept that then maybe we can get some shit done.

Let me tell you, as a single girl there is nothing I love more than listening to you gush about how happy you are in your new relationship and about how in love you are and about how great life is now that you have a great boyfriend. There really is nothing better, except, oh yeah, any other fucking topic in the entire world.
